“An Examination of Artistic Expression Through Honoré Daumier’s Le Fardeau” by SARAH ISAK-GOODE of Lindenwood University.
This highly interesting dissertation, which has just been published, offers a completely new aspect to Daumier’s multifaceted work. SARAH ISAK-GOODE examines the divergence between his satirical caricatures and the often gloomy scenes of hard-working women and their fate. She impressively illuminates this social aspect and Daumier’s sensitive way of describing this ‘private’ world and making it ‘public’. She analyses the artist’s inner motivation and outlines psychobiographical aspects that show us his path to these works, which were particularly close to his heart. Sarah Isak-Goode conducts her detailed research focussing on the painting ‘Le Fardeau’.
The author has made her entire dissertation available to us, which we are hereby authorised to make publicly accessible online. We can highly recommend this reading to anyone interested in Daumier’s art. Take the time to read this interesting publication. It is well worth it!
