La Silhouette

LA SILHOUETTE was the first satirical weekly publication in France. Founded shortly before the collapse of the Bourbon Monarchy in December 1829, it appeared only until January 2, 1831, where after LA CARICATURE took over the activities. LA SILHOUETTE was founded by Honoré de BALZAC, Emile de GIRARDIN-RATIER and DE VARAIGNE. 52 editions appeared in the period of its existence.

BALZAC was the author of about 16 texts, illustrations (total of 105) were by HENRI MONNIER, CHARLES PHILIPON, A. DEVÉRIA, J.-J. GRANDVILLE, TRAVIÈS and others. DAUMIER’s contribution consisted of only 3 lithographs: DR 1, DR 14, DR 20.
