Previous Exhibition: BOATS, SHIPS, BARGES
Right or wrong - I am the captain!
It's not always easy to ride a boat, ship or nutshell. But in Daumier's eyes most captains are trying to make the best of a situation. Enjoy the exhibition and navigate the torrential waters of this boat-tour.

Previous Exhibition: CARNIVAL - MASKS - COSTUMES
As we all know, carnival is the crazy time of the year. Have a look how Daumier experienced it in the 1860's from a political as well as entertaining viewpoint - and as usual certain similarities to existing persons are purely coincidental.
Enjoy the carnival season with Daumier!

Previous Exhibition: HUNTING-ACCIDENTS
Whether it was a famous politician or an ordinary citizen - hunting accidents always happened, also in Daumier's time. See what happened in the 1850s when a hunter shot his companion (or the dog of his companion) and you'll find out that Cheney's mishap is nothing new!
This exhibition can only be seen for a limited time (Feb. 13 to 23, 2006)
THIS WAY TO ENTER the slide show HUNTING-ACCIDENTS .(February 13, 2006)
Previous Exhibition: DAUMIER AND THE OPENING OF THE HUNTING SEASONHow could Daumier possibly resist depicting the fine human weaknesses which so easily become visible when the hunting season starts. Not having been a huntsman himself, he took a generous portion of artistic liberties: His hunters usually are “gentleman-hunters” from the city who are getting easily scared by an overly aggressive rabbit. A milk cow shows all the attributes of a vicious fighting bull, and the gun powder usually gets wet in the wrong moment. The hunter’s difficulties in getting up before sunrise is being shown here as well as his missed hunting talent, resulting in having to purchase a hare from the local farmer.
We hope you will enjoy the new exhibition!

Previous Exhibition: DECEMBER - A MONTH OF PARTIES !
December, the festive season - as seen by Daumier. When looking at our December exhibition you will find out how little difference there is between celebrating then and now. The Parisians enjoyed endless parties, ate too much, danced too long, drank too much. Sounds like December nowadays. Partying took place on all levels of society: in the family, in the army, by the river-boat captains and, of course at the “Society of Moderation” where the 87th toast was brought out simply to celebrate the existence of this organisation.
You will again have the opportunity to appreciate Daumier's caricatures of his fellow Frenchmen, sometimes tender, at other times to the point... but not being an enemy of a few glasses of wine himself, he was by no means criticizing celebrations and parties.
Best wishes for the festive Season and Happy New Year!
Enjoy the slide show!

Previous Exhibition: DAUMIER AND THE THEATER
Join us at the theater and see how Daumier, who was an ardent admirer of the performing arts, saw the “theater folks”. Lean back in your seat when the lights go out and watch the slide show: the poor actor entering the theater through the stage entrance on a rainy evening, munching his sparse evening meal consisting of some French fries and thinking about his upcoming role as a great seducer and powerful prince. We also see the great Greek King Agamemnon enjoying a game of poker with Clytemnestra during a short intermission, before she will kill him in his bath tub just minutes later. El Cid and Rodrigue (the faint-hearted one) have probably never before been shown in such a “ridiculous” manner. No one can escape Daumier’s ironic but never offensive drawing pen.
Enjoy your visit to the theater with Daumier!

Previous Exhibition: THE WINE SEASON.
October is the month of wine harvest. How could Daumier possibly resist drawing his delightful caricatures about wine drinking and wine harvest. He introduces us to the hard working wine farmer sweating in the vineyard and to the city dweller who never in his life imagined the back braking work which was needed to produce his cherished Bordeaux. But he also shows us some shady wine merchants “improving” the quality of the wine by adding sugar or “stretching” it by thinning it down with water from the nearby river.
Sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy the exhibition.

Previous Exhibition: LA RENTRÉE - BACK TO SCHOOL.
Once again the nightmare for many hopeful and struggling students is starting: the month of September - synonymous for the beginning of the much dreaded school term. Have a look at our new exhibition and find out how Daumier suffered with the students, not forgetting that our little brats occasionally succeed to be quite vicious when defending their position against teachers or parents. The other side of the coin shows a proud father thriving in the joys that his offspring had won a cherished prize for scholastic excellence such as cleanliness or staying awake during math-lessons. We also feel deeply with the drawing instructor and his fruitless endeavour to make a Leonardo out of a an utterly untalented child.
We hope you will enjoy the new exhibition.

Previous Exhibition: SUMMERTIME !
Summertime is vacation time... especially in France. Nowadays like 150 years ago, Parisians, in a concerted effort of getting out of town, will rush to the seaside or to the public baths. At these resorts they eventually and quite by chance will meet again the same people they usually encounter in the city. The difference however is the relaxation, fresh air and clean water enjoyed by all of these happy vacationers in a truly collective summer experience of rare intimacy.
Have a look at our Great Summer Exhibition of Daumier lithographs, which as always, should not be taken too serious! For those of you who remained behind in the big cities, do not despair: enjoy the solitude and calm of a hot but empty town!

Previous Exhibition: UNPUBLISHED DAUMIER PRINTS
Isn’t it amazing that with the help of collectors and museum curators one occasionally is fortunate enough to find prints unknown to most Daumier amateurs? For the first time we are pleased to enclose in this special advance edition to the upcoming DAUMIER REGISTER, a list of lithographs which have either not been published or not photographed by Delteil and/or in other work catalogues. Since some of them were already known to Provost and Hazard, we are adding together with the Daumier Register Number the respective Hazard or Provost numbers, where available. Provost used “ bis” additions in order to place the prints in a time-relation to Delteil’s numbers.
Many of these prints we were able to photograph, but for a number of them, photographs are unfortunately not yet available. We invite you to scrutinize your own collections and possibly supply missing photography. At the end of the list you will find some photos not recorded in the Delteil catalogue.
All these findings are of course also documented in the DAUMIER REGISTER©, together with hundreds of corrections of dates and additions of states, previously not recorded by Hazard or by Delteil. Please click here to go directly to the DAUMIER REGISTER©, the new work catalogue on Daumier’s lithographic work on the internet.

Previous Exhibition: DAUMIER'S LAWYERS
Enjoy a walk through our Daumier Museum. Our present exhibition shows Daumier's lawyers from "Les Gens de Justice" as well as from many other series. Many of them are well known caricatures, others may be unknown to you. We are showing here on purpose pictures of a print quality which can be found on the market and with which every collector is familiar. It was not our intention to present a "coffee table book". Sit back and smile at the various aspects captured so masterfully by Honoré Daumier.
